Summer is here and its time for long days at the pool, ice cream trucks, running in sprinklers and 100% exhausted kids at the end of the day!
I’ve put together a quick project that even a beginning sewer can easily finish is an hour or so! Kids beach towel/bag sets, super cute and very practical for all your little water babies!

sweet and simple
Best part about these, cheap to make! You can pick up cute/cheap beach towels just about anywhere, these were from Target and were $6, i’ve seen them even cheaper though.
These are best for young kids, as you will be cutting off the top 15′ of the towel which will obviously make it a bit shorter. Most towels are 60′ long but longer ones are available everywhere so you could just pick one up thats longer for a few bucks more and make one for an adult or big kid just as easily cutting off the same 15′ for the bag.
My tall 5 year old fits just fine with plenty of space to spare on the end result towel, to give you an idea.

both little birds
I never thought, at least ever since I started sewing and realized I was horrible at following real patterns, that I would actually enjoy sewing dresses and clothes for my girls but it has actually happened! I am really starting to enjoy this clothes making thing, especially super cute and fun little numbers for my super cute and fun little birds!
When I first started sewing, the main reason initially was so I could make nice little dresses for my girls without spending a ton on them. I could see that they were usually only made of a few central pattern pieces just by eyeing them at the store so I figured it couldnt be hard.
I went and bought a few patterns at JoAnne’s and much to my surprise was terrible at following the directions! Nothing really made a ton of sense to me the way it was explained on the very simplified list of directions and soon I pretty much decided I would never make another one again, at least not until I was a seasoned sewer who could just come up with my own patterns!
So I have, as many of you know, become a pretty seasoned sewer at this point. (although I by no means know everything and have more than my share of not nice words while working on my many projects) Recently realizing we had a family photo shoot coming up I decided that it was time, I was going to tackle another dress attempt, see where it took me!
With some help from a very crafty and knowledgable family member, Mrs Judy Dressel, I successfully finished a set of dresses for my girls! Though following the pattern to the tee made me nuts and made me realize that even when I did it correctly, Thank You Judy, it still hung off the girls like a big bag! These patterns are so not fitted or form fitting in any way, isnt that why I bought the pattern to begin with?
Well now that’s it! I’m going to just start making my own patterns! I started today and made a new set of dresses that I think came out pretty cute, and guess what? They actually fit my girls correctly! They are gathered halter dresses with a zip back closure and adjustable tie. It was way easier to do this in my opinion than try and follow the McCall’s or Simplicity baggy patterns.

My big Birdie
Maybe I will start trying to get these patterns documented a bit better than my own chicken scratch so some of you can take a crack at it, what do you think?

both little birds

aww the love!
So what do you think? Like them? Should I get a pattern together for my fellow crafty girls out there?
Oh and finally re-covered that ugly foot stool to go with my snazzy living room chair!
The Before, not very attractive but has good feet

The After

Pretty easy project, just unscrewed the feet, ripped off the cover, copied the measurements and re-sewed a new one. Once on, I just used a staple gun to re-attach, screwed the feet back on and re-tacked on the decorative tacks along the bottom.

Its been a good week! Lots and lots of stuff done and feel’n good! I’ve been working on orders, which of course is always a pleasure, finishing crown molding in our living room and kitchen with the Hubby, and preparing for easter. Whew, exhausting! I even had time to go to the gym for the first time in weeks, so nice to get a few minutes to myself
The molding has been on my mind for months and to my surprise my husband actually didn’t totally hate doing it, Yeah! So up and down the ladder we went all week and finally its done, and I love it!
We really wanted a big fat crown mold but that stuff is not cheap, and I was not gonna be able to convince my husband of the dire need I had for it so we improvised. Instead of one very large strip of crown we used a small crown, about 3 1/2″. Once installed I measured down 3 1/2″ and made a line for a second strip of molding, this time a curved half round about a 1″ tall. I primed the center where the wall is and then spackled the joints all the way around the room.

We then hung the half round using the line we measured,

both layers hung and the center wall is primed
did any final spackling and did a top coat of white enamel over the whole thing.

All Done!

great corners Hubby!
And now some lovelies that went out this week!

New Baby Set, Congrats Corrina!

Daisy Days DIaper Bag, Enjoy Jocelle!

Custom Clarkia Clutch, Lush!

Custom Reversible Aster, really sweet!
And a big thanks to all the donations that came in for the Bikou-En Orphanage, Japan! All of these blankets, supplies and lovies will do a great thing for a lot of orphaned little ones!

thats a ton of stuff!
And now I must go, with upwards of 500 easter eggs to fill tonight for the neighborhood egg hunt tomorrow, its going to be a long night! At least i have the help of a few lovely ladies and a few lovely bottles of wine!
